What Does Cancer Mutations Affect Signal Pathways
Cancer Mutations Affect Signal Pathways Oncogenic transformations can make the influenced qualities be overexpressed or deliver changed proteins whose movement is dysregulated. Then again, cancellations and different changes can inactivate negative controllers that regularly work as tumor silencer. Numerous tumor silencers work as negative controllers of cytoplasmic motioning for instance, the adenomatous polyposis coli protein (APC) is a negative controller of the Wnt pathway, and the lipid phosphatase PTEN is negative controller of the P13K-Akt pathway. Authoritative of receptor tyrosine kinases to the suitable ligand causes redesign of the receptors and autophosphorylation of tyrosines in the intracellular part of the particles.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Advance downstream, changes in the tumor silencers TSC1 and TSC2 hyper initiate motioning by mTORC1 (Laplante and Sabatini 2012). This is a critical focus of P13K-Aktsignaling. Additionally, the Ras-ERK pathway is enacted by transformations in Ras, or its downstream target Raf, that reason constitutive initiation of these proteins or by inactivation of GTPase-actuating proteins (Holes, for example, NF1, that empower the hydrolysis of GTP bound to Ras, which prompt its inactivation (Cichowski,2001). The interpretation factor Myc is an essential downstream focus of Ras-ERK flagging and numerous different pathways. It is much of the time opened up or overexpressed in malignancy; strangely, Myc can tie to promoter areas of qualities as well as upgrade transcriptional extension of polymerase II, in this manner expanding its belongings past qualities with Myc-restricting destinations in their promoters. Myc can fill in as an all inclusive intensifier of communicated qualities as opposed to simply authoritative to promoters and starting interpretation (Sever and Brugge, 2015). Development factor and cytokine flagging can impact the improvement of a few malignancy sorts. One of the key players in the improvement of tumor is Janus kinas (JAK) flagShow MoreRelatedCancer : A Common Misconception About Cancer5956 Words à |à 24 Pagesââ¬Æ' INTRODUCTION What is Cancer? A common misconception about cancer is that it is a relatively new disease. Cancer, like many diseases have been prevalent in the populations of many species, not just humans, for millennia. In fact it was a Roman doctor who translated the Greek word ââ¬Å"carcinosâ⬠into ââ¬Å"cancerâ⬠, a Latin word meaning ââ¬Å"crabâ⬠. string(89) " and kept offering everything from discount jewelry to thinly veiled sexual suggestions\." Maryââ¬â¢s excited blathering rang through the house as I hurried down the hallway. I could see the bathroom at the end and three closed doors along the way. Great. We will write a custom essay sample on Succubus Heat CHAPTER 15 or any similar topic only for you Order Now Did they have to be shut? With my luck, theyââ¬â¢d probably squeak. I could only hope that Mary would remain too loud and too distracted to notice. The first door opened-with no squeaking-into a bedroom. The bed was unmade, and clothes had been pushed into piles against the wall. An old dresser sat against one wall, and a nightstand with some papers stood near the other. There was also a mirror on the ceiling. Shuddering, I considered going in to investigate the nightstand papers but decided to hold out and see if I might find an office behind one of the other two doors. Shutting this one silently, I continued down the hallway. The second door did squeak, and I froze, waiting for Mary to come tearing down after me in an effort to bludgeon me with one of Sethââ¬â¢s books. I wasnââ¬â¢t entirely sure how far his star power would go to save me if caught snooping. She didnââ¬â¢t look like the violent type, but one never knew. Fortunately, she kept talking without pause, and I stuck my head inside the new room. It was just another bedroom, a guest one by the looks of the dust and lack of personal items. I closed the door, grimacing at another squeak. One more room to go. Jackpot. The third wasnââ¬â¢t an office, but it did appear to be a workspace. Wide tables lay along the walls, covered in chunks of crystal-clear quartz, smoky quartz, etc.-in various states. Some were raw and jagged; others were polished and carved. Tools like blades and picks lay nearby, along with a more sophisticated and modern-looking device I couldnââ¬â¢t identify. Maybe some type of laser cutter. Best of all, there was a two-drawer filing cabinet against the wall. I hurried to it, still mindful of Maryââ¬â¢s chatter, and opened the top drawer. Over a hundred file folders with names met me. I pulled one at random and saw that it did indeed have a job order. There was a description of the item, client information, job status, and a picture of the finished product. Unfortunately, having all this information meant little to me. I had no idea what name had been used for the seal-or if Mary was even the one who had made it. Frustrated, I opened the next drawer and found financial records, like bills and bank statements. I also located folders labeled ââ¬Å"work logsâ⬠categorized by month. I eagerly pulled out this monthââ¬â¢s and discovered a simple list of dates, client names, and brief descriptions of products. All-except for the three most recent ones-had check marks beside them. Finished products, presumably. I scanned the dates before Jeromeââ¬â¢s disappearance, cross-checking against the descriptions. Green Tara statue . Bracelet . Athame . Three invoices in the last two weeks caught my attention: round pendant, talisman, medallion . I recognized none of the client names, but the culprit could no doubt have used an alias. Returning to the second drawer, I found each clientââ¬â¢s file. The pendant was the right size and shape, but it had a hole drilled in it for a chain or string. I couldnââ¬â¢t say why, but something told me the sealââ¬â¢s original form would be whole. The talisman turned out to be the wrong shape. It was thick and oblong, more like a stone someone would keep in their pocket for good luck. I was starting to panic now. This was taking too long, and I couldnââ¬â¢t hear Mary anymore. God, espionage had been so much easier when I could turn invisible. With shaking hands, I pulled out the last file-the medallion. The client was Sam Markowitz, and heââ¬â¢d picked it up four days ago. The photo depicted a flat, quarter-sized disc made of smoky quartz with symbols I didnââ¬â¢t recognize etched onto it. Was that it? It was the closest I had to a match of Carterââ¬â¢s description. There could be other matches-items ordered months ago-but I didnââ¬â¢t have time to go through any more files. I shoved the medallion photo into my purse, closed the drawer, and hurried back out to the hall, half expecting to find Mary blocking my path. I had no need to worry, though. She had never left Sethââ¬â¢s side-literally. She now sat in my spot, pressing Seth between her and the couchââ¬â¢s arm. Two stacks of books were on the coffee table, and an open one was on his lap. He finished signing it and glanced up at my entrance with a relieved look. ââ¬Å"But you see,â⬠Mary was saying, ââ¬Å"until Oââ¬â¢Neill is able to confront the darkness within himself, heââ¬â¢ll never be able to open himself to Cady. Heââ¬â¢s had his moments of vulnerability, of course-like the cave scene in Dominant Eclipse -but heââ¬â¢s still keeping his armor up-just like on the veranda in Memories of Man -and so itââ¬â¢s no wonder-ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Hey,â⬠I said cheerfully. ââ¬Å"We should probably get going.â⬠Seth shot up from his seat, looking rather like a trapped animal who had just gnawed its own leg off and was about to run free. ââ¬Å"Yes. We donââ¬â¢t want to detain Mary any further.â⬠Mary stood up too. ââ¬Å"No, no! Itââ¬â¢s okay. Really. And you have to finish signing my books.â⬠With a grimace, Seth grabbed the last three books and hastily scrawled his signature in them. ââ¬Å"Thanks for talking to us,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s been great meeting you.â⬠ââ¬Å"Are you sure you have to go?â⬠she pleaded. ââ¬Å"I was going to make some dinner soon.â⬠She shot me an accusing look. ââ¬Å"And if itââ¬â¢s Ginger who needs to leave, I can give you a ride home later in my van-ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"No, really,â⬠said Seth, backing up to stand by me. ââ¬Å"I appreciate it, but I have to, you know, get back to writing.â⬠Extricating ourselves was painful. Mary begged and kept offering everything from discount jewelry to thinly veiled sexual suggestions. I complied, peeling out of her driveway as fast as I could and kicking up dirt and gravel in the process. ââ¬Å"That right there,â⬠I mused, ââ¬Å"is the kind of fan who keeps authors in their crawlspace.â⬠Seth leaned his head back against the seat. ââ¬Å"Do not ever do that to me again. Ever.â⬠ââ¬Å"I wasnââ¬â¢t that far away. I would have heard you screaming.â⬠ââ¬Å"Not if she used ether first. God, Georgina. She had her hand on my leg.â⬠ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s Ginger to you.â⬠ââ¬Å"Please tell me you got something useful out of that. I know you didnââ¬â¢t go to the bathroom.â⬠ââ¬Å"Nope. I broke into her workroom and ransacked her files.â⬠He groaned. ââ¬Å"Breaking and entering.â⬠ââ¬Å"Hey, Iââ¬â¢m a creature of Hell. And she technically let us in.â⬠ââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢d you find?â⬠Eyes on the road, I reached into my purse and fumbled until I found the picture. I handed it to Seth. ââ¬Å"This is it?â⬠he asked. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m not certain. Itââ¬â¢s close to the description, but I donââ¬â¢t know enough about this to really say.â⬠ââ¬Å"Hmm.â⬠Seth studied it and then slipped it back into my purse. We rode for a few more minutes in silence until I finally asked, ââ¬Å"I was never that bad of a fan, was I? That crazy?â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh, God, no,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"Absolutely not. You were charming and cute and-â⬠He abruptly cut himself off, but those words hung in the air between us. ââ¬Å"You-you werenââ¬â¢t like that. Nothing like that,â⬠he managed at last. There was a husky tone to his voice, hinting of some emotion but refusing to reveal which one it was. Iââ¬â¢d meant my comment to be light, just a way to keep the conversation going. However, like everything else lately, the words had ended up triggering far more meaning than Iââ¬â¢d intended. I had a flashback to when Seth and I had first met, when I hadnââ¬â¢t even known who he was. Iââ¬â¢d rattled off my feelings for my favorite author, little knowing I was actually talking to him. Unlike Mary, I hadnââ¬â¢t stalked him on the Internet and known what he looked like. Seth cleared his throat. ââ¬Å"Soâ⬠¦what will you do with the picture now?â⬠I ran with his change in subject. ââ¬Å"Get someone to identify it, I guess. Erik, maybe. Or Dante.â⬠More silence fell, and I felt the tension ratchet up. Dante. Once again, harmless words had triggered big consequences between us. I expected Seth to try again to shift the subject, but instead, he actually addressed it. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s weirdâ⬠¦seeing you with Dante.â⬠ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t you mean itââ¬â¢s weird seeing me with anyone?â⬠ââ¬Å"Wellâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Even with my eyes on the road, I knew he had that thoughtful, slightly distracted look in his eyes that meant he was pondering how best to phrase his next words. I used to love that look. Now I was on high alert. ââ¬Å"Yeah, to a certain extent, of course,â⬠he finally admitted. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢ll always be weird. But every time I talk to him, I just thinkâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"If you say that I can do better, then Iââ¬â¢m pulling this car over right now.â⬠ââ¬Å"Um, no. I was just going to say he doesnââ¬â¢t seem like your type.â⬠ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s nearly the same thing,â⬠I pointed out. ââ¬Å"You sound just like Hugh and the others. Iââ¬â¢m getting so sick of this! Honestly, it doesnââ¬â¢t matter who I date. Youââ¬â¢re never going to be happy.â⬠ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s not true,â⬠said Seth. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s justâ⬠¦when youââ¬â¢re around him, youââ¬â¢re darker and more cynical. Youââ¬â¢re not like you used to be. This sounds stupid, considering what you are, but youââ¬â¢reâ⬠¦well, youââ¬â¢re a force for good in the world.â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh, come on ,â⬠I said. ââ¬Å"No, I mean it. Maybe you are a creature of Hell, but people feel better when theyââ¬â¢re around you. You have this way of talking and smiling that affects everyone. Youââ¬â¢re nice, youââ¬â¢re good-hearted, you worry about othersâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ He sighed. ââ¬Å"But when youââ¬â¢re with Dante, itââ¬â¢s like all that light that normally shines out from you gets sucked away.â⬠ââ¬Å"That light got sucked away a long time ago,â⬠I said bitterly. ââ¬Å"Long before he came along.â⬠ââ¬Å"No, it didnââ¬â¢t. Itââ¬â¢s there, and if youââ¬â¢re going to be involved with someone, you need someone who sees it, someone who loves you for it and wants to help bring it out.â⬠I had someone like that , I thought. You . ââ¬Å"Dante and I work well together, no matter what any of you think. He understands me.â⬠ââ¬Å"No,â⬠said Seth flatly. His voice was low, but I could hear the anger in it. ââ¬Å"He doesnââ¬â¢t.â⬠ââ¬Å"What other options do I have? Youââ¬â¢re throwing me into an impossible situation. You know I canââ¬â¢t date anyone whoââ¬â¢s good. I canââ¬â¢t risk hurting them, but I donââ¬â¢t want to be alone. This is my only option.â⬠ââ¬Å"No. It canââ¬â¢t be. Before we were together, it wasnââ¬â¢t like this. You werenââ¬â¢t drinking all the time and having sex with anonymous guys in bathrooms!â⬠And thatââ¬â¢s when I did it, just like a dad on a road trip. I pulled the car over to the side of the road. It was a long, country highway, and there wasnââ¬â¢t much traffic. Seth stared incredulously. ââ¬Å"What are you doing?â⬠ââ¬Å"Saving us from an accident,â⬠I growled, turning so I could meet him straight in the eye. ââ¬Å"And youââ¬â¢ll be lucky if I donââ¬â¢t make you get out and walk the rest of the way. Look, you want to know why I wasnââ¬â¢t dating loser guys when we met? Because I wasnââ¬â¢t dating anyone . I took my hits and went home alone. Why is it so wrong for me to want to be with someone now?â⬠ââ¬Å"It shouldnââ¬â¢t matter if youââ¬â¢re dating someone or not. You still shouldnââ¬â¢t be acting like this!â⬠ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re telling me what I should and shouldnââ¬â¢t be doing? Itââ¬â¢s my business. You have no right!â⬠I yelled back. ââ¬Å"Friends have every right to tell friends when theyââ¬â¢re on a bad path,â⬠he snapped back. ââ¬Å"Bullshit! Iââ¬â¢ve never seen you interfere with anyone elseââ¬â¢s life, no matter how badly they were screwing it up. Iââ¬â¢m the only one you seem to want to mess with. Why do you care so much about what I do?â⬠Seth and I had raised our voices only rarely while dating, and it had never even come close to this. It was a wonder we didnââ¬â¢t shatter the windows. ââ¬Å"Because I care about you! I told you that at the party. Breaking up doesnââ¬â¢t mean you stop caring about someone.â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes, but it means you have to let them go.â⬠I was so upset that I was on the verge of tears. ââ¬Å"You canââ¬â¢t have it both ways. You canââ¬â¢t get rid of me and then try to pull me backâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"I never wanted to get rid of you.â⬠I stared at him for several heavy moments and felt those traitorous tears brimming heavier and heavier in my eyes. ââ¬Å"Then why did you do it?â⬠After all that yelling, his voice sounded barely like a whisper. ââ¬Å"Becauseâ⬠¦I wanted to save you.â⬠ââ¬Å"You canââ¬â¢t,â⬠I murmured, swallowing the tears back with great effort. ââ¬Å"You canââ¬â¢t keep saving me, canââ¬â¢t keep trying to. Itââ¬â¢s too late.â⬠ââ¬Å"No,â⬠he said. His heart was in his eyes, and it was ripping mine apart. ââ¬Å"Not for you. Never.â⬠I donââ¬â¢t know how it happened exactly, but suddenly we were kissing. His lips were just as I remembered, soft and powerful and wonderful. It wasnââ¬â¢t a chaste kiss, nor was it a ripping-off-each-otherââ¬â¢s-clothes kiss. It was hungry and desperate, like weââ¬â¢d been struggling through a desert and only just now found the water we needed to survive. Best of all, it was just kissing. Just me and Seth. There was no life energy or succubus schemes involved. There was no need to back off for fear of what might happen. We could drink from each other without pulling back. Except, well, we did. We jerked apart, and I knew the shock on his face mirrored my own. What had we just done? Had weâ⬠¦had we really done it? It was a kiss. A real kiss. The kind of kiss weââ¬â¢d always wanted. The kiss we werenââ¬â¢t supposed to be having. I turned abruptly away, staring at the road ahead. I was frozen and numbâ⬠¦and yet, alive and filled with warmth. The world had been in that kiss. But I didnââ¬â¢t know how to react to it, didnââ¬â¢t know what I was supposed to do now. So, I did the most inane thing possible. I started the car. ââ¬Å"We should get back,â⬠I said. ââ¬Å"Yeah,â⬠he agreed, sounding as stunned as I felt. I dared a look out of my peripheral vision. His eyes were fixed straight ahead, his wonderful lips tightened in a line that somehow made them look strong and vulnerable at the same time. I wanted to lean over and kiss them again, to melt as I had moments ago and forget all about reason. I wanted that perfect feeling to last forever. Instead of dealing with what had just happened, however, I did the cowardly thing and stepped on the gas. We drove back to the city in miserable silence, neither of us mentioning the kiss but both of us thinking about it. I dropped him off at the bookstore and offered a polite thank-you for his help. He returned it equally politely-giving me one last pensive look-and then walked off toward his car. I watched him go, memorizing every line of his body and how he moved. Every emotion possible warred within me, and I had no idea which deserved to win. I was exhausted by the time I stepped into my apartment building. The day had been mentally and physically wearying, what with would-be rapists, larceny, and the kiss heard ââ¬â¢round the world. Later, Iââ¬â¢d find someone to identify the photograph for me. For now, I just wanted to sprawl on the couch and watch TV, preferably TV that had nothing to do with the magical or paranormal-or any romantic tension. Unfortunately, the magical and paranormal was waiting for me. Whatââ¬â¢s Nanette doing here? That was my last coherent thought before I was thrown against the far side of my living room. I hit hard, my head cracking against the wall. I fell to the ground, my legs just barely possessing the reflexes to keep me from falling as black spots sparkled across my vision. Nanette faced me, terrible and beautiful in all her golden glory. She hadnââ¬â¢t laid a hand on me, but she didnââ¬â¢t need to, not with the power she wielded. ââ¬Å"How dare you,â⬠she hissed, eyes narrowed. ââ¬Å"How dare you spread those kinds of rumors.â⬠ââ¬Å"What are you-ah!â⬠I was shoved back to the wall again. The distance wasnââ¬â¢t nearly so far as before, but the force was so hard that the impact hurt just as much. More pain shot through my skull as I tried to make sense of all this. ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t know what youââ¬â¢re talking about!â⬠I cried. Nanette stalked toward me, putting her face inches from mine. ââ¬Å"Of course you do. You told Cedric that I was the one whoââ¬â¢d summoned Jerome, that I was the one causing chaos in his territory.â⬠ââ¬Å"I didnââ¬â¢t,â⬠I whimpered. ââ¬Å"Not exactly. I just told him youââ¬â¢d met with Jerome.â⬠She snarled and grabbed me by the front of my shirt, jerking me forward. ââ¬Å"That was nothing. Nothing! But now others are suspicious.â⬠ââ¬Å"I just thought he should know and-ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Do you know what you may have done?â⬠she screamed. ââ¬Å"I was a candidate for this city! You may have ruined everything.â⬠She threw me again, this time toward the corner my TV was in. Its sharp angles bit into me when I hit, and I crumpled to the floor. I tried to pull myself up but never made it. Nanette was right there beside me. I had a full view of her black stiletto pumps just before she kicked me in the ribs. Pain blasted me, and my body instinctively tried to curl over and protect itself. But she was too fast and too powerful. Greg had had a lot of brute strength at his disposal, brute strength Iââ¬â¢d been able to counteract a little. But against Nanette? Against a demon? Her strength was beyond that of a human, nearly beyond human comprehension. ââ¬Å"Do. Not. Fuck. With. Me,â⬠she said, punctuating each hit with a kick to my stomach or ribs. ââ¬Å"Do you understand? You are nothing. Nothing .â⬠ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m sorry,â⬠I said. My eyes burned, and every part of my body was screaming, begging for this to end. The kicking stopped, and I rolled to my side, only to have a wave of power slam down on me and roll me to my stomach, pinning me down on the floor like an invisible ton of bricks. I tried to move but couldnââ¬â¢t even budge. ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t care if youââ¬â¢re Jeromeââ¬â¢s favorite or Cedricââ¬â¢s new darling,â⬠she said. Her voice was all ice and malice. Again, she didnââ¬â¢t touch me with her hands, but the back of my shirt suddenly ripped open. ââ¬Å"I could destroy you right now, blast you from the face of the earth, and no one would say anything. Instead-youââ¬â¢re lucky Iââ¬â¢m in a good mood today.â⬠Her ââ¬Å"good moodâ⬠felt like a thousand whips hitting my back. Tiny lashes of power, sharp as razors and burning like flames, slammed into me. I screamed as they slashed at my skin, ripping it open. Some part of me thought that if I screamed loud enough, maybe a neighbor would hear me. It was a useless sentiment, though. She would have soundproofed this room much as the demons had at the Cellar. Besides, what could any mortal do against this? Again and again those invisible whips tore into me. Obviously, I couldnââ¬â¢t see what was happening, but in my mindââ¬â¢s eye, I imagined my flesh torn to ribbons, my entire back a horrible, bloody mess. I donââ¬â¢t know how many times those lashings repeated. They blurred together. I was fast approaching a point where the pain was so intense, so overwhelming that I almost couldnââ¬â¢t feel it. My vision was going black, my brain barely able to hold consciousness. When the beating finally stopped, I wondered if I was dead. The room was still and silent. Then, the invisible force lifted off my back. I tried to roll over but couldnââ¬â¢t. Nanette knelt down, her lips right against my ear. ââ¬Å"Do not fuck with me,â⬠she whispered. ââ¬Å"You interfere again, and I will kill you.â⬠She vanished. I was left alone, sobbing and bleeding. I tried to move again but still was unable to. What was I going to do? I couldnââ¬â¢t even call for help. Of course, it probably didnââ¬â¢t matter. The pain was so great that I was either going to die or pass out any minute now. Human devices might not kill me, but demonic ones could, regardless if I was in stasis. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt strong arms slide underneath me, gently lifting me in a way that kept my back up. I stifled a small cry. Even without my back being touched, the movement hit every other muscle and place on my body that Nanette had hurt. I opened my eyes, trying to see who was there, but my vision was swimming and rapidly darkening. ââ¬Å"Whatâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ was all I managed to get out. ââ¬Å"Shh, love. Itââ¬â¢s going to be okay. Youââ¬â¢re going to be okay.â⬠Those arms gently eased me onto my bed. I moaned again as fire shot through my ribs. Cool hands smoothed back my hair, but I still couldnââ¬â¢t see anything. ââ¬Å"I canââ¬â¢t heal you,â⬠the voice said. ââ¬Å"But Iââ¬â¢ll get someone who can help. Just donââ¬â¢t move. Itââ¬â¢s going to be okay.â⬠There was something familiar about the voice, but I couldnââ¬â¢t identify it through the haze and confusion in my head. I could barely breathe, let alone think. Silence fell after that, as though my mysterious benefactor had left. Yet a few moments later, I blearily saw hands set Aubrey on the bed beside me. She leaned forward, sniffing my face. One of the friendly hands petted her head and back, in that way that could so often coax cats into lying down. It worked, and after turning in a couple of circles, she settled down beside me. Then, the hand stroked my hair one last time. ââ¬Å"Everythingââ¬â¢s going to be okay.â⬠That was the last thing I remembered hearing. My savior might have stayed or left. I didnââ¬â¢t know because a few moments later, that blackness finally won, and I sank into a dreamless sleep that was mercifully free of pain. How to cite Succubus Heat CHAPTER 15, Essay examples

PREFORMING OUR THEOLOGICAL TASK Essays - Christian Philosophy
PREFORMING OUR THEOLOGICAL TASK 1. Write an essay, which sets out as clearly as possible your present understanding of the Christian Church and the Christian faith and life. Along the way, discuss how Buechner and English have/or have not been helpful to you in formulating your own statement. The Christian church has unique goals and purposes which, by definition, the world not committed to the Jesus, as savior does not honor or share. The church has been called to be a "people for God's own possession" (Ephesians 1:13-14, 18, 2:19-22) ? uniquely reflecting His character and striving to do those things in this world that are important to Him. It is by the deeds that we do that we bring glory to God. These deeds may not be extravagant or spectacular works in the sight of the world?they may involve a few people or may, but they are always redemptive in nature, helping others to understand God and to experience salvation through Jesus Christ. We who call ourselves Christians have a choice?a choice to have our lives defined by the calling to which we have been called or by some other calling. The danger today is that the choice is somewhat masked by other choices that also seem to be uniquely Christian. The politically correct academic world in which secular "political correctness" promotes an attitude of contempt for traditional Christian beliefs, the Christian churches attempts to bring all Christians into their particular fold, and the hyper-charismatic "renewal" movement?each with it's own separate agenda. Some offer the Christian church success in different but sometimes similar ways (by appealing to emotional satisfaction rather than sound doctrine and reason). Dr. C. Peter Wagner of Fuller Theological Seminary is very open about his belief that Christian theology is determined by experience. He endorses a "paradigm shift" in which Christians adapt a view of the world more in line with Eastern mysticism. It is the strength of each of the movements that should alert us that the convoluted thinking of our times leads us away from a true understanding of what God has given us in his written word. The church today is undergoing a major transition period, as churches strive to innovate a worship form more inclusive of GenXers and at the same time continue to attract the baby boomers. At the same time many congregations are suffering anxiety about change. This fear of change is probably the major impediment to effective ministry in Christianity in the United States today. Some of the mainline churches, in efforts to reach the unchurched, have de-emphasized biblical teaching and watered down their Christology to the point of not being able to have any significant influence on those who attend. A disciple of Jesus today must be determined to discover what it means to follow the calling of God in daily life. In this aspect we receive help from the Holy Spirit in learning from God's word, spiritual teachers and in the way we live our lives for God. The church today doesn't have to invent her mission today, but to serve the Lord and be faithful to the mission that has already been ordained by God. In order to correct the understanding of Christianity there has arisen a zeal for evangelism and missions. This, in part, arises from a faith that is sacred and compelling. We must remember however, that the object is not to place everything in the middle between two extremes, rather to keep everything in its own proper proportion. It may be seen from teachings of liberal Christians in the early 19th century that being "saved" or "becoming a Christian", in the liberal sense came to mean recognizing God's love for us or accepting God's assistance but not the salvation of a Holy God from the eternal consequences of sin through Jesus Christ. Many people today within the Christian community are determined to do what would have been unthinkable to earlier evangelical Christians?abandon traditional Christianity for "new Revelation". This would imply a church today that has forgotten the apostolic testimony, the apostolic teaching, the apostolic example, and the apostolic charge; a church that has lost faith in its message. Salvation to many has become simply a matter psychological adjustment or education. The remedy is to see God as

CE vs. AD
CE vs. AD CE vs. AD CE vs. AD By Maeve Maddox A reader takes issue with my use of the designation CE instead of AD in this sentence: ââ¬Å"A mix of these tribes migrated to England in the fifth and sixth centuries C.E.â⬠Here is the readerââ¬â¢s reaction: Give me a break with the New Age (CE) crap.à You cant make-up words and slogans to change history or our calendar.à Its AD period. Clearly, the reader prefers the traditional Western designation of AD and BC to the equivalent CE and BCE to denote the eras demarcated by the birth of Christ. Contrary to the readerââ¬â¢s belief, the use of AD in lieu of CE to denote the Christian era is nothing so new as ââ¬Å"New Age.â⬠The term ââ¬Å"New Ageâ⬠refers to a movement of the 1970s that was characterized by alternative approaches to traditional Western culture. Environmentalism and an interest in spirituality and mysticism as opposed to organized religion are especially associated with the New Age phenomenon. The designation CE as an abbreviation for ââ¬Å"Christian eraâ⬠predates the New Age movement by about 300 years. According to The World Heritage Encyclopedia, ââ¬Å"The expression Common Era can be found as early as 1708 in English.â⬠Still earlier than that, another chronological term used by Christians was vulgaris aerae, ââ¬Å"the common era.â⬠(The adjective vulgar derives from the Latin noun vulgus, ââ¬Å"the common people.â⬠) This designation occurs in English as both ââ¬Å"vulgar aeraâ⬠and ââ¬Å"vulgar eraâ⬠and is abbreviated V.Ae. or V.E. However, AD/BC have been with us for a very long time, and the reader is not alone in feeling a strong repugnance toward the growing practice of replacing it with CE/BCE. At least one Christian governing body urges adherents to resist the CE/BCE notation, seeing it as a result of ââ¬Å"secularization, anti-supernaturalism, religious pluralism, and political correctness.â⬠On the other hand, many Christians support the change, in deference to non-Christian cultures that also employ the chronology. The abbreviations CE and BCE may be interpreted as any of the following phrases: Christian era, before Christian era common era, before common era current era, before current era I started using CE/BCE in my posts for Daily Writing Tips because we have an international audience and because Iââ¬â¢ve become aware that more and more publishers are adopting these designations. For example, five books pulled from my shelves at random reflect the changing convention: AD/BC: Christianizing the Roman Empire, Yale University Press, 1984. AD/BC: A History of Private Life, Volume I, Harvard University Press, 1987. CE/BCE: The Encyclopedia of World History, Houghton-Mifflin, 2001. CE/BCE: Life After Death, Doubleday, 2004. CE/BCE: The Real Messiah, Watkins Publishing (London), 2009. For my part, if the World were to organize a vote on the matter, Iââ¬â¢d vote to keep BC/AD- if only for the fact that itââ¬â¢s easier to tell which is which. When I read a book that uses the BCE/CE abbreviations, I have to slow down when I come to a date because the letters CE are in both designations. Any culture designing a chronology will choose a culturally significant event to mark ââ¬Å"Year One.â⬠Before the AD designation became common, Christians made use of the Hebrew Anno Mundi chronology, which began with the estimated date of Creation. Some Christian writers reckoned time from the birth of Abraham. ââ¬Å"Year Oneâ⬠for the Islamic calendar is the year Mohammad led his followers from Mecca to Medina- 622 CE on the Gregorian calendar. Whether we call the first year of our current era AD 1 or 1 CE, the fact remains that the reckoning is based on ancient Christian belief about the year in which Jesus was born. Modern scholars calculate that the historical Jesus was actually born four to seven years earlier than 1 CE. I think itââ¬â¢s very likely that in another fifty years or so, a new world reckoning will supersede the current one for international use. A new chronology will separate the ââ¬Å"before and afterâ⬠eras with a new ââ¬Å"Year Oneâ⬠based on some event lacking religious connotations. Style considerations The Chicago Manual of Style recommends writing CE and BCE without periods. Writers making the switch from BC/AD to BCE/CE need to be aware of a difference in where the abbreviations should be placed in relation to the date. With BC/AD, the tradition is to put BC after the date and AD before the date: Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. Joan of Arc was executed in AD 1431. With the BCE/CE designations, both follow the date: Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BCE. Joan of Arc was executed in 1431 CE. Writers not governed by a publicationââ¬â¢s style guide are free to use BC/AD. However, anyone who reads much history may as well get used to seeing BCE/CE. Ethnic American- History Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Ethnic American- History - Essay Example But the debate on Immigration today involves more complex issues as varied as the issues of human rights to cultural apprehensions to corporate economics. Thus for the second or third generation immigrant the issue is much more complex than the first generation immigrant. The big corporate companies approach the issue of immigration as a source of cheap labor availability. There are ethnic lobbies who want to strengthen their bases of political power, using the immigrants. Even the opponents of immigration donââ¬â¢t have a common platform. Protecting the American culture from getting polluted by immigrants is the concern of the extreme rightists. Depressing wages and disappearing jobs are what are worrying the labor advocates. Thus the immigration debate today is beyond the perception of any single immigrant group like the Mexicans and is much more complex than what the first generation immigrants faced. The most important aspect of the debate about immigration today is the economic aspect of it. The corporate lobby in the United States wants not to stop immigration at all, because these immigrants constitute a source of cheap labor. One can employ an immigrant for meager wages with no other benefits of labor. This helps them to increase their profits enormously. More over these immigrants are ready to work in areas where American workers are reluctant to work. Thus these illegal migrants fill up the jobs which the Americans refuse to take up, because they are unpleasant and physically demanding with bad working conditions, especially in agriculture, construction and service industries. The Pew Hispanic Centre estimates that in 2001 workers with out legal documents comprised 58% of work force in agriculture, 23.8 % in private house hold services 16.6% in business services 9.1% in restaurants and 6.4 % in construction. Almost 90% of the immigrant workers are not educationally qualifi ed enough to be conscious of the price of the work they are

The Future of the Texas Political Ideology Assignment
The Future of the Texas Political Ideology - Assignment Example According to the essay findings, from the 17th century politics was influenced by English law. Later, the French revolution reshaped American politics. Now it is promoting an American liberal democratic culture with a mixture of both majority and minority communities. Every census since 1790 has seen a change in the racial composition of the country from the free male, free female, slaves to the current complex ethnic groups. Data on the current population indicates that ethnic diversity in the United States is rapidly growing. At present America consists of 75% white population but the census data predict the fact that the Anglo population, Asian population, and other minority population will increase very rapidly and it will contribute a major portion of the population in the near future. Hispanics are the fastest-growing minority, 90 percent of which is located in only ten states. It is observed that the political ideology of these groups will be a challenging factor for the futur e of Texas politics.Ã The economic and social infrastructure development of the country also has a great role in the future political situation of the country. Now, due to the advancement in the healthcare and improvements in the standards of life of the people, the mortality ratio of the population has decreased. The rapid increase in the aged population will be a challenging factor for every state and political Governance. It will result in the expansion of health care services, social security measures and public health services for the vast population. The productive age group will decrease and it will affect the economic growth of the country and accelerate the migration of labor forces from Asian countries.
